WIFF: Work, Rest, and a Semi-Retirement State

Welcome to another edition of “What I’m Feeling,” my weekly dive into thoughts, musings, and discoveries to kickstart your weekend on a reflective note.

Over coffee this week, I had a conversation with a friend about my current state of “work.” She suggested that I might be on a mini or semi-retirement of sorts and at the end of the conversation, I concluded that I was. So many of us have been conditioned to work until the age 65 and then we’re free to retire and be done with work and themini or semi-retirement lifestyle insists that you can sprint, rest, sprint, rest over the course of your work life.

In our frenzied culture, I am balancing the rhythms of work and rest. I am not sprinting at all. I’d say that I’m between a walk and a jog depending on the day.
